Lost my first Internship?
Today, while studying for my deep learning finals at the library, I received a call from the HR team at Kijiji. They let me know that, due to financial constraints, all internship programs — including mine — were being canceled. It was a tough call to receive. I had already completed onboarding and was set to start in just two weeks.
It’s frustrating, especially since many application deadlines for summer internships have already passed. I’m still processing everything, but I’m doing my best to stay positive and focus on what I can control — putting in the work to find a new opportunity for the fall.
I know there’s not much I can do about what’s happened, but I can choose how I respond to it. And I’m choosing to move forward with hope and positivity? I’m trying to see this as a new door opening — maybe this change will lead me to something even better.
Through it all though, I feel incredibly supported by my mentor and friends. Their support has helped me stay grounded and reminded me that I’m not alone in this. I’m genuinely grateful — I don’t think I could’ve handled the news as well without them.
So here’s to fresh starts and second chances. I’m keeping my hopes up and I won’t give up. Thanks for reading.
P.S. Had to do a quick update to my blog — took out the part about working at Kijiji this summer, just in case future employers come across it.
